Fake Sugar Truths & Dangers

Harvard Medical School graduate Dr. Marcelle Pick has written a very good article about fake sugars.  RNC, MSN, OBG/YN and Nurse Practitioner she is well respected in the area of holistic health.  A very comprehensive article targeted towards women, but extremely valuable to everyone.  Take a few minutes and read through the entire article, it has everything you want or need to know and even the history of all artificial sweeteners.   
 


Key points to remember:

  • Artificial sweeteners are toxins, chemicals, not food.  Therefore they have no nutritional value.
  • Your body does not recognize Splenda and other fake sugars, so therefore in theory it gets passed through the digestive system as waste.  Downside is, the healthier your gastrointestinal system, the more you absorb.
  • We don't know exactly how or if artificial sugars are harmful, there are no long term studies.  We are the test subjects for it to tell later generations.  However, side effects can be mild to being linked to MS, lupus and fibromyalgia.
  • Artificial sweetners are everywhere, practically in everything these days.  Unfortunately just because something is put on the shelves does not mean it is safe.   
  • Be educated, be sensible.  If you use fake sugars, realize the potential dangers and use them sparringly, if at all.
  • Healthy natural alternatives are Stevia and sorbitol
